How it works
Portrait of James Curry, mortgage and protection adviser

Welcome, I'm James

Mortgage and protection adviser in Alsager. I help first-time buyers, landlords and homeowners across Cheshire and Staffordshire, including Alsager, Sandbach, Knutsford, Kidsgrove, Crewe and Stoke-on-Trent, and I explain your options in plain English.

I'm CeMAP qualified and work with Vickers Young, with access to the whole of the mortgage market*. Appointments are in person, by phone or by video, including evenings and weekends. Not local? I can help clients anywhere in the UK by phone or video call.

*Whole of market, excluding deals available only direct from lenders.

First-time buyers

Buying your first home, explained properly

Buying a first home is exciting and a little daunting. I will guide you through each stage so you know what is happening and what comes next.

Worth knowing: an Agreement in Principle is an indication from a lender of what they may be willing to lend you. It is not a guarantee of a mortgage, but it is a useful starting point when you start viewing properties.

What I can help with

Working out what you could borrow, explaining the types of mortgage, and getting an Agreement in Principle in place before you start house-hunting.

What you will typically need

Proof of identity and address, recent payslips or accounts if you are self-employed, bank statements, and details of your deposit.

I will let you know exactly what is needed for your situation.
Landlords

Mortgage advice for landlords and property investors

Whether it is your first rental property or your next purchase, I will explain your options and help you choose a mortgage that fits your plans.

Please note: most forms of buy-to-let mortgages are not regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Who I work with

First-time landlords, existing landlords adding to or reviewing a portfolio, and landlords considering buying through a limited company.

Tax advice

I can explain how ownership structure affects your mortgage options. For tax advice you should speak to a qualified tax adviser or accountant.

How it works

No jargon, no rush

Here is what to expect when we work together.

  1. A relaxed first chat

We talk through your situation, your plans and any questions you have. This first conversation is about understanding you.

  2. Your options explained

I research the market and explain the choices available to you, including the pros and cons of each.

  3. Surveys and solicitors arranged

I can arrange a survey and a solicitor on your behalf and get quotes for you, so it is all handled in one place.

  4. Support to completion

I help with the application and paperwork and keep you updated until your mortgage is in place.

Your home may be repossessed if you do not keep up repayments on your mortgage.

Ready for a friendly, no-pressure chat?

Common questions

Mortgage questions, answered

What do I need for the first conversation?

Just yourself. It helps to have a rough idea of what you are hoping to do and your timescale, but we can work the rest out together.

Can you help if I'm self-employed?

Often, yes. Lenders look at self-employed income in different ways, so it is worth having a conversation about your situation before you apply.

Do you only help first-time buyers?

No. I help first-time buyers, home movers, landlords and people looking to remortgage, and I can also advise on protection.

Can we meet in person?

Yes. I am based in Alsager and can meet locally, or we can speak by phone or video if that is easier. Evening and weekend appointments are available.

Do I need to live locally?

No. I am based in Alsager, but I can help clients anywhere in the UK. Advice can be given by phone or video call, wherever you are.
